The Commissioner of Police in Jigawa State, Haruna Alaba Yahaya, has intensified consultations with critical stakeholders in the state as part of efforts to strengthen community policing, improve security coordination and prevent election-related violence ahead of political activities in the country.
The police commissioner made the move during a strategic familiarisation and duty tour to the Ringim Emirate and Ringim Area Command, where he engaged traditional institutions, local government authorities, security stakeholders and community leaders on emerging security challenges confronting the area.
As part of the visit, CP Haruna paid homage to the Emir of Ringim, Alhaji Dr. Sayyadi Abubakar Mahmoud Ringim, CON, where he and members of his entourage were received by the Chiroma of Ringim on behalf of the Emirate Council.

The commissioner later proceeded to the Ringim Local Government Secretariat where he held a strategic security meeting with local government chairmen within the emirate.
Discussions at the meeting centered on strengthening security architecture through improved collaboration among security agencies, traditional rulers, community leaders and local authorities.
In a major highlight of the visit, the police commissioner convened a town hall security meeting attended by religious leaders, youth groups, students, vigilante groups, Civilian Joint Task Force members, road transport unions, human rights organizations and other stakeholders across the emirate.
The meeting focused on practical ways of addressing prevailing security threats and deepening community participation in intelligence gathering and crime prevention.
During the interactive session, participants were sensitized on safety measures relating to Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and related threats by the Commander of CBRN-EOD Base 24, Dutse, who emphasized the importance of early detection and prompt reporting of suspicious materials or activities.
Addressing stakeholders, CP Haruna identified several crimes and social vices affecting communities in the state, including mob violence, witchcraft-related attacks and accusations, rape of minors, culpable homicide, violent attacks involving dangerous weapons, reckless driving, speeding, overloading and environmental crimes linked to deforestation.
The commissioner urged residents to cooperate with law enforcement agencies by providing useful information capable of preventing crimes and maintaining peace within their communities.
He also cautioned politicians, youths and residents against involvement in election violence and electoral offences as preparations for political campaigns gather momentum, warning that the command would deal decisively with anyone found threatening public peace.
According to him, the Jigawa State Police Command remains committed to ensuring peaceful and credible electoral processes throughout the state.
CP Haruna also addressed officers and personnel at the Ringim Area Command Headquarters, where he charged them to uphold professionalism, discipline and intelligence-led policing in line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu.
In continuation of the tour, the police commissioner paid a courtesy visit to former Inspector-General of Police Hafizu Ringim at his residence, where he sought guidance and fatherly advice on advancing effective policing and security administration in the state.
The visit is seen by observers as part of broader efforts by the police leadership in Jigawa State to build stronger community trust, improve intelligence sharing and enhance proactive security measures across the state ahead of future political activities and other emerging security concerns.
