The Kano State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability, and prudent management of public resources through the successful conduct of the 2025 Accrual Financial Statement Presentation and Validation Exercise.
The exercise, organized by the Kano State Office of the Accountant General in collaboration with the Kano State Ministry of Finance and the Kano State Ministry of Budget and Planning, was held at the Butterfly Garden Town Hall.
Delivering the keynote address on behalf of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Farouq Ibrahim, described the programme as a reflection of the administration’s unwavering commitment to openness, credibility, and responsible stewardship of public funds.
According to him, the present administration has continued to prioritize transparency and fiscal discipline as part of broader efforts aimed at strengthening public confidence in governance and ensuring effective service delivery across Kano State.
“This exercise reflects the government’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and responsible management of public resources. It is also part of ongoing reforms to strengthen public confidence in governance,” he stated.
The SSG explained that the annual financial statement remains a critical instrument for public sector accountability because it provides a comprehensive overview of government financial operations, including revenues, expenditures, assets, and liabilities.
He further noted that the validation exercise was designed to ensure compliance with established financial regulations and international public sector accounting standards, while also reinforcing best practices in public financial reporting and management.
Alhaji Umar Farouq Ibrahim praised the collaboration among the Office of the Accountant General, the Ministry of Finance, and the Ministry of Budget and Planning, describing the partnership as evidence of the administration’s collective resolve to institutionalize accountability and transparency in the management of public funds.
The two-day engagement attracted senior government officials, directors, accountants, auditors, and representatives of ministries, departments, and agencies involved in the state’s financial management system.
The SSG also commended stakeholders for their professionalism and commitment throughout the exercise, noting that their contributions would help improve the credibility and accuracy of the state’s 2025 financial statements.
“The Kano State Government remains committed to sustaining reforms that promote fiscal responsibility, transparency, and efficient utilization of public resources for the benefit of the people,” he added.
Observers say the validation exercise forms part of ongoing public finance reforms by the Kano State Government aimed at strengthening accountability systems, improving financial reporting standards, and enhancing transparency in governance.
