The One Kano Agenda has commended the establishment of the Forum of Retired Security Personnel and Senior Civil Servants in Kano State, describing the initiative as a timely and strategic intervention aimed at strengthening security coordination and supporting existing security agencies in safeguarding lives and property across the state.
In a statement jointly signed by the Director General of One Kano Agenda, Abbas Yakasai, and the organization’s Secretary General, Mukhtar Musa, the group said the initiative comes at a critical period when collective action, intelligence sharing, and community-based security approaches have become increasingly necessary.
According to the statement, the coming together of retired military officers, police personnel, Department of State Services operatives, paramilitary officers, and senior civil servants represents a major boost to Kano State’s security architecture.
“Their years of experience, institutional knowledge, strategic understanding, and grassroots connections will greatly support ongoing efforts to maintain peace, stability, and social harmony in our dear state,” the statement noted.
The organization described Kano State as the commercial and cultural heartbeat of Northern Nigeria, stressing that maintaining peace in the state is essential not only for residents but also for the economic and social stability of the entire region.
One Kano Agenda praised members of the newly established forum for voluntarily offering their expertise and experience toward strengthening security coordination and community engagement.
While applauding the initiative, the group also outlined several recommendations aimed at ensuring the forum’s effectiveness and long-term impact.
According to the statement, the forum should: prioritize community engagement and grassroots sensitization, build public trust and encourage citizen participation in security matters, collaborate closely with traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth groups, civil society organizations, and community associations, and develop sustainable local security solutions.
The organization further advised the forum to maintain a professional and non-partisan operational structure focused solely on the collective interest of Kano State and its people.
It also called for: periodic security dialogues and stakeholder consultations, practical policy recommendations to government authorities, youth empowerment and mentorship programmes, deradicalization initiatives, and strict adherence to human rights and civil liberties in all collaborative security operations.
“The forum should pay special attention to youth empowerment, mentorship, and deradicalization programmes to address the root causes of insecurity,” the statement added.
Call for Collective Responsibility; One Kano Agenda reaffirmed its support for all genuine initiatives aimed at protecting lives, dignity, and prosperity within Kano State.
The group urged citizens, traditional institutions, community leaders, and stakeholders to support the newly formed forum in the interest of peace, development, and stability.
“Kano belongs to all of us, and securing it is a shared responsibility,” the statement concluded.
Security analysts say the establishment of the forum reflects growing recognition of the importance of community-driven security strategies and the utilization of retired professionals’ experience in addressing emerging security challenges across Northern Nigeria.
