The Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN) has organised the third session of its 2026 Mandatory Continuing Professional Development (MCPD) Programme in Kano, bringing together accounting professionals from across the North-West to strengthen leadership capacity, strategic thinking and professional excellence.
The programme, held in the ancient city of Kano, attracted members of the association, senior government officials, traditional rulers and other stakeholders in the accounting profession.
In his welcome address, the Chairman of ANAN, Kano State Branch, Muhammad Abba Aliyu, urged participants to maximise the opportunities provided by the training.
He encouraged members to fully utilise the knowledge and networking opportunities offered by the programme, stressing that the skills and professional relationships developed during the event should translate into improved workplace performance and better service delivery to society.
“The knowledge and relationships we build here should improve our performance in the workplace and enhance the services we render to society,” he said.
Speaking at the event, the National President of ANAN, Talatu Zuwaira Kashimi, said the programme, themed “Leadership, Strategy and Professional Excellence,” was designed to equip members with the competencies required to meet emerging professional challenges.
She noted that participants attended from the North-West geopolitical zone and reaffirmed the association’s commitment to continuous professional development.
According to her, ANAN will continue to invest in capacity building and strategic partnerships that will make its members more strategically inclined, digitally competent and capable of delivering greater value in both the public and private sectors.
Representing Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, the Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Musa Sulaiman Shanono, highlighted the critical role professional accountants play in improving revenue generation, financial management and public service delivery.
He said the Kano State Government places high priority on capacity development, revealing that the administration has sponsored about 150 accountants to obtain professional qualifications under ANAN as part of efforts to strengthen public financial management.
Also speaking, the Emir of Gaya, Aliyu Ibrahim Gaya, urged participants to apply the knowledge and skills acquired during the programme in their professional responsibilities.
He advised them to remain committed to the objectives of the training and embrace the lessons that would equip them to become more effective leaders, strategic thinkers and exemplary professionals.
Similarly, the Governor of Kebbi State, Nasir Idris, who was represented by the state’s Commissioner for Local Government, Abubakar Dutsin Mari, commended the contributions of professional accountants to national development.
He said competent and ethical accountants play a vital role in ensuring transparency, accountability and prudent management of public funds, adding that governments depend on professionals in the accounting field to strengthen public financial administration.
The programme featured technical sessions, professional interactions and networking opportunities aimed at enhancing the competence of accountants and promoting excellence in leadership, governance and financial management.
