The Kano Pillars Basketball Team has departed Kano for Port Harcourt, Rivers State, ahead of the 2026 Nigeria Premier Basketball League (NPBL) Super 8 Championship scheduled to hold from August 30 to September 5, 2026.
The Kano-based side qualified for the final stage of the competition following impressive performances during the earlier phases of the league held in Jos and Minna.
The Super 8 championship brings together the country’s top eight teams competing for the NPBL title.

Kano Pillars will battle Rivers Hoopers, Aso Sky Hawks, 313 Warriors, Gboko City Chiefs, Maktown Flyers, Hoops & Read and Lagos Raptors for the league crown.
The delegation comprises players, coaches and club officials who left Kano in high spirits and determined to deliver a strong performance for the state.
Speaking ahead of the championship, club officials expressed confidence in the team’s preparation and urged the players to remain focused throughout the competition.
They also commended the Executive Chairman of the Kano State Sports Commission, Alhaji Muhammad Tukur Babangida, for his support towards the team’s participation in the championship.
The officials equally appreciated the Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, for supporting the team and creating an enabling environment for the development of sports in the state.
The team has pledged to give its best throughout the championship and fight for the NPBL trophy.
A statement signed by Ashiru Rabiu Gidan Tudu, Information Officer, Kano State Sports Commission, said the players and officials were determined to make Kano State proud at the championship.
The Super 8 tournament is expected to provide a major test for Kano Pillars as the team seeks to compete against some of the strongest basketball sides in the country and return home with the league title.
