Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has invited Alhaji Aminu Babba Dan’agundi, the Sarkin Dawaki Babba and Senior Counsellor to the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, to a closed-door meeting amid renewed tension surrounding the Kano Emirate dispute.
Dan’agundi attended the meeting at the Kano State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja following an invitation from Governor Yusuf, with the engagement reportedly lasting nearly two hours, according to a source with direct knowledge of the development.
The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorised to publicly discuss the meeting, said Dan’agundi arrived at the Governor’s Lodge following the invitation and was received before proceeding into a private meeting with Governor Yusuf.

The source, however, did not disclose the specific issues discussed during the meeting.
The account of the meeting could not be independently corroborated with either Governor Yusuf or Dan’agundi as of the time of filing this report. Efforts by our correspondent to reach Dan’agundi and officials of the Kano State Government for further details were initially unsuccessful.
The meeting is coming against the backdrop of renewed developments in the long-running Kano Emirate dispute involving the camps of Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II and Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero.
In a recent video shared on social media, Dan’agundi spoke about his relationship with Governor Yusuf, saying he has “a lot of respect” for the governor.
Dan’agundi has remained a prominent figure in the camp of Emir Aminu Ado Bayero and has been vocal on issues surrounding the Kano Emirate dispute. He has also been involved in legal proceedings challenging aspects of the Kano State Government’s handling of the emirate matter. A lawyer involved in the case told journalists in April 2026 that Dan’agundi’s Supreme Court case was between him and the Kano State Government and security agencies, rather than a direct contest between the two emirate claimants.
The latest development also comes amid a dispute over horse-riding and traditional processions in the Kano metropolis.
The Kano State Government and security authorities have maintained restrictions on Durbar and public horse-riding activities in the metropolis, with the police previously stating that anyone intending to organise public horse riding must provide written notice at least 72 hours in advance for security assessment and arrangements.
The restriction became a fresh point of contention after Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II was reportedly seen riding on horseback during a public appearance, prompting renewed attention to the enforcement of the directive.
Dan’agundi had earlier said the Bayero camp was waiting to see what action the state government would take following the reported breach of the restriction by Emir Sanusi.
He had also indicated that supporters of Emir Aminu Ado Bayero would await the emir’s return before announcing arrangements for a planned traditional horse-riding procession to Yakasai.
Against this background, the invitation of Dan’agundi by Governor Yusuf has attracted attention because of his position within the Bayero camp and his longstanding involvement in the Kano Emirate dispute.
The purpose of the latest meeting, however, remains undisclosed, and neither the governor nor Dan’agundi has publicly stated whether the discussion was specifically related to the emirate dispute, the horse-riding restriction or broader issues concerning peace and security in Kano.
The development is being closely watched as authorities continue to manage tensions surrounding the competing claims to the Kano throne and seek to prevent the dispute from escalating into confrontation.
