The Kano State Sports Commission has announced the death of its Secretary, Dr Bashir Ahmad Maizare.
Dr Maizare died on Wednesday night, October 7, 2026, the Commission said in a statement issued on Thursday.
Announcing the death, the Commission’s Public Relations Officer, Ashiru Rabiu Gidan Tudu, expressed deep sorrow over the passing of the Secretary.

According to the statement, the funeral prayer for the deceased will be held at approximately 10:00am on Thursday, October 8, 2026, at his residence in Kofar Wambai, Kano.
His remains will subsequently be taken to Abba Tour Cemetery within Kano metropolis for burial.
Dr Maizare was the Secretary of the Kano State Sports Commission and had been actively involved in the administration and development of sports in the state.
Only recently, he had congratulated Kano athletes and officials over their performances in various sporting competitions and reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to supporting athletes and coaches.
The Kano State Sports Commission prayed Allah Almighty to forgive the deceased, shower His mercy upon him and grant him Aljannatul Firdausi.
“Inna Lillahi Wa Inna Ilaihi Raji’un. To Allah we belong, and to Him shall we return,” the statement said.
May Allah grant Dr Bashir Ahmad Maizare eternal rest and give his family, colleagues and the entire Kano sporting community the strength to bear the loss. Ameen.
