The All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared Sen. Tijjani Yahaya Kaura winner of its re-run primary election for Zamfara North Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Kaura emerged winner after polling 16,758 votes in the exercise conducted on Monday, Nov. 2, following a court order directing the party to conduct a fresh primary.

The result was announced by Sani Abdullahi, a member of the APC Senatorial Primary Election Committee, on behalf of the committee.

Abdullahi said that two other aspirants, Sahabi Alhaji Yau and Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi, scored 1,465 and 1,447 votes, respectively.

He said that 23,257 voters were registered for the exercise, while 19,608 delegates were accredited to participate in the voting process.

According to the committee, 19,292 valid votes were recorded during the exercise.

Abdullahi said that Kaura fulfilled all requirements stipulated by the APC Constitution and the party’s electoral guidelines, having secured the highest number of valid votes.

He subsequently declared Kaura duly returned as the party’s candidate for Zamfara North Senatorial District in the 2027 general elections.

The result sheet was signed by the committee’s chairman and secretary at the conclusion of the exercise.

The re-run primary followed a legal dispute over the party’s earlier nomination process.

The Court of Appeal in Sokoto had upheld a ruling of the Federal High Court in Gusau, which nullified the previous primary election over reported irregularities and ordered a fresh exercise.

The court-directed re-run was aimed at addressing the irregularities that affected the earlier nomination process.
