World Disabled Day 2023: CSADI Trains 30 On Small Scale Business, Donates Wheelchairs

In it’s efforts to meet the global standard of increasing awareness of gains to be derived from the integration of persons with disabilities in every aspect of political, social, economic and cultural life, the Community Support and Development Initiatives (CSADI) has trained about thirty (30) persons living with disabilities on small scale businesses.

During an event on Sunday in Kano, chairperson of CSADI Hajiya Zainab Ahmad Suleiman, explained that,the training was part of the association’s commitment in alleviate suffering and improving economic standard.

According to her, some of the trainees were enrolled primary or secondary schools,and received training on different small scale businesses, so as to become self reliant.

Mrs Suleiman pointed out that,the beneficiaries were drawn from three Local government area of Dala, Gezawa and Bunkure,saying that ,they would be closely monitore, to ensure the sustainability, guidance and counselling.

“If you go closwr to them you will find out that a lot of them were brilliant, we have been tracking, some of them have finished universities and some of have not processed from primary schools, so I have decided to re-integrate them back to schools with the help of ministry of education” she said.

She urged the public, philanthropists and relevant stakeholders,to unite against stigmatizing person living with special needs.

The spokes person of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Person (NAPTIP),Kano office Alhaji Abba Aliyu Kalli, said they have received reports on cases of trafficking of PEDs,from Kano to other countries, stressing that, the agency is mandated to arrest and prosecute anybody found wonting.

He maintained that,the participants were sensitized on how to report any discrimination or abuse, saying that, the agency has prosecuted one person found guilty of trafficking PWDs in the name of employment, and presently serving his jail term.

“As I am speaking to you, after arresting and prosection of that traffic gang leader, the whole channel and their links was crashed, and up to now we have never received any case of such nature” Abba Kalli said”

He reiterated the agency’s commitment, in supporting any decision aimed at strengthening working relationship with the PWDs to achieve the set objectives

Also speaking, the head of National Agency for migrants, refugees and internally displaced persons in Kano state Hajiya Luba Liman, appreciate the invitation extend to their organization, and promised to work closely with CSADI to achieve the desired objectives.

The annual observance of the International Day of Disabled Persons was proclaimed in 1992, by the United Nations General Assembly resolution 47/3.

The observance of the Day aims to promote an understanding of disability issues and mobilize support for the dignity, rights and well-being of persons with disabilities.

The main programme of the observance of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities at the UN Headquarters in New York will include the Opening, panel discussions and cultural events.

Member States, civil society organizations and the private sector are welcome to organize their own events to celebrate the International Day to raise awareness and promote the rights and perspectives of persons with disabilities around the world.

The theme of the 2023 International Day of Persons with Disabilities is: “United in action to rescue and achieve the SDGs for, with and by persons with disabilities”.
