At least 69 people have been killed in a deadly militia attack in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, according to security sources cited by AFP News Agency.
The attack reportedly occurred in the conflict-ridden eastern part of the country, where armed groups have continued to carry out violent assaults on civilians and security forces despite ongoing military operations.
Security sources said the assailants stormed communities in the affected area, leaving dozens dead and triggering fresh fears over the deteriorating security situation in the region.

Eastern DR Congo has remained plagued by violence involving multiple armed factions, including local militias and foreign-backed rebel groups. The region has witnessed recurring massacres, mass displacement, and humanitarian crises for more than two decades.
The latest killings are expected to intensify pressure on the Congolese government and regional security forces to strengthen operations against armed groups operating in North Kivu, Ituri, and surrounding provinces.
No group had officially claimed responsibility for the attack as of press time, while Congolese authorities had yet to release a detailed statement on the incident.
The United Nations and humanitarian organizations have repeatedly warned that worsening insecurity in eastern DR Congo continues to expose millions of civilians to violence, hunger, and displacement.
This is a developing story.
