The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dissolved the party’s entire Kano State Working Committee (SWC) chaired by Dr. Bello Gambo Bichi.
The dissolution takes immediate effect, according to a letter dated Thursday, September 24, 2026, and signed by the PDP National Organising Secretary, Hon. Umar M. Bature.
The letter, addressed to the Kano State PDP Chairman and marked “Dissolution of PDP State Working Committee, Kano State”, stated that the decision followed due consultations by the party’s National Working Committee.

“the entire PDP State Working Committee (SWC) for Kano State chaired by Dr. Bello Gambo Bichi is hereby DISSOLVED with effect from the date of this letter,” the letter stated.
However, the national leadership clarified that the dissolution affects only the state working committee, stressing that the party’s Ward and Local Government Area (LGA) working committees remain intact.
“This dissolution affects the State Working Committee ONLY. The Ward and LGA Working Committees are NOT AFFECTED by this dissolution,” the letter stated.
The PDP national leadership further announced that the North West Caretaker Committee would henceforth take charge of the affairs of the Kano State chapter pending the election of a new State Working Committee.
The development comes against the backdrop of recent internal developments within the Kano PDP, including changes surrounding the party’s 2027 governorship ticket and efforts to reconcile competing tendencies within the state chapter. Recent reports had indicated that the party reaffirmed Mohammed Sani Abacha as its governorship candidate after a fresh internal process.
The latest dissolution effectively brings the tenure of the Bichi-led State Working Committee to an end, while leaving the structures at ward and local government levels operational.
In the letter, the National Organising Secretary thanked Bichi and members of the dissolved State Working Committee for their services to the party.
The national leadership did not state in the letter the specific reasons for the dissolution or provide a detailed timeline for the election or replacement State Working Committee.
The North West Caretaker Committee is therefore expected to pilot the affairs of the Kano PDP pending the emergence of a new state executive through the party’s prescribed process.
