The governorship candidate of the New Democratic Congress (NDC) in Kano State, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, has called on eligible residents, particularly youths and women, to take advantage of the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) online voter registration portal and complete their registration before the July 24, 2026 deadline.

Gwarzo made the appeal in a statement issued on Saturday by his spokesperson, Ibrahim Garba Shuaibu, urging prospective voters to utilise the Commission’s newly introduced self-service registration platform, which allows first-time voters to initiate and complete their registration online using their National Identification Number (NIN).

According to the statement, the initiative is designed to make voter registration more convenient by enabling eligible Nigerians to begin the process from the comfort of their homes through the online Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) portal via https://cvr.inecnigeria.org

The NDC governorship candidate described the innovation as a significant step toward expanding citizens’ participation in Nigeria’s democratic process by eliminating the stress associated with physical registration and long queues at registration centres.

He stressed that voting remains one of the most effective means through which citizens can shape governance, hold leaders accountable and determine the future direction of the country.

“This new portal removes the barrier of long queues. Our young people, our mothers and sisters can now register at home using their phones or computers. There is no excuse not to participate,” Gwarzo said.

He specifically appealed to youths and women across Kano State to seize the opportunity by registering and obtaining their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), describing the PVC as the most powerful instrument for democratic participation and positive political change.

“The PVC is your power. It is the weapon we have to bring about positive change for our families, our communities, and Kano State. I am calling on our youth and women especially—register, collect your PVC, and vote in 2027,” he stated.

Gwarzo urged all eligible Nigerians who have not yet registered as voters to complete their online pre-registration, present themselves for biometric capture where required by INEC, and ensure they collect their Permanent Voter Cards once they become available.

He noted that active participation in elections is essential for strengthening democracy and ensuring that government reflects the aspirations of the people.

“The future of Kano State and Nigeria depends on informed and responsible citizens. Register today, vote peacefully in 2027, and let’s build the Kano we all desire,” he added.

The governorship hopeful also called on traditional institutions, religious organisations, youth associations, women groups and civil society organisations to intensify public enlightenment campaigns and mobilise eligible citizens to register ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He said broad-based participation in the voter registration exercise would contribute to a more inclusive electoral process and ensure that more citizens have the opportunity to exercise their constitutional right to vote.

The appeal comes as INEC continues its nationwide Continuous Voter Registration exercise, with the online pre-registration portal expected to remain open until July 24, 2026, ahead of preparations for the 2027 general elections.
