The Chairman of the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC), Professor Sani Lawal Malumfashi, has resigned following his nomination by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for appointment as a commissioner.
Malumfashi announced his departure during a farewell address to commissioners and staff of the commission, expressing appreciation for their support and cooperation during his tenure.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by Bashir Habib Yahya, Media Aide to the outgoing KANSIEC chairman.

The statement said Malumfashi thanked the commissioners and staff for their contributions to the successful conduct of the 2024 local government elections in Kano State.
He urged them to extend the same level of cooperation and support to the incoming leadership to ensure continuity in the commission’s activities.
The outgoing chairman also sought forgiveness from anyone he might have offended while in office, assuring them that he held no grudges against anyone.
Responding on behalf of the commissioners, the Commissioner for Media and Publicity, Alhaji Lawan Badamasi, popularly known as Galadiman Gezawa, urged Malumfashi to justify the confidence reposed in him by Governor Yusuf through his nomination.
The development follows Governor Yusuf’s decision to nominate the former electoral commission chairman for a commissioner position in the Kano State Government.
