The Special Taskforce Committee on Illegal Structures has resealed a block industry after its operators allegedly ignored an earlier government stop-work order and continued construction activities.
The committee discovered that despite being directed to halt all development on the site, the owners proceeded to erect a massive gate, in clear violation of the government’s directive.
Speaking during an inspection tour, the Chairman of the Committee and Director-General of the Kano Geographic Information System (KANGIS), Dr. Dalhatu Aliyu Sani, described the action as a blatant disregard for the law.
“It is unlawful for anyone to continue construction after a property has been sealed by the government. Such acts will not be tolerated,” he said.
Dr. Sani explained that the committee’s mandate is to ensure orderly urban development, improve security, and promote a clean, safe, and sustainable environment across the state.
“We are carrying out this assignment in the interest of Kano’s development. The committee will continue to operate day and night, including weekends, to ensure full compliance with land administration laws,” he stated.
The KANGIS boss noted that many residents have commended the committee’s efforts and have continued to support its operations by reporting illegal developments and complying with official directives.
He stressed that the committee carries out its duties professionally, fairly, and without bias, warning that anyone who violates government regulations will be held accountable under the law.
Dr. Sani also emphasized that the committee neither seeks nor accepts any form of gratification, urging developers and property owners to comply fully with land use regulations and obtain the necessary approvals before embarking on any construction project.
He further appealed to members of the public to report illegal construction activities to the appropriate authorities.
During the operation, the committee also sealed a building under construction at Dangauro Market, situated on government-owned land.
According to the committee, the structure was being developed without an approved building permit or the required statutory documents.
The individual responsible for the project has been directed to report to KANGIS immediately or face legal consequences.
The person responsible is urged to present himself to KANGIS with immediate effect before the committee or face the wrath of the law, the Chairman insisted.
