As the Nigerian Premier Football League 2023/2024 season enters the round of 27, the four-time champions Kano Pillars, under the leadership of its technical adviser, Coach Audu Maikaba, are in a critical situation as the team only won one match and two draws out of the six matches they played in the second stanza, both at home and away, in the current Nigerian Premier League season.

Kano Pillars’ first win since the round of 22 to the round of 27 was when they beat Sports Lagos one-nil at Sani Abacha in the round of 27.

There is no doubt the winning steep chains of Kano pillars are sinking under the watchful eye of one of the most ever-paying coaches in Kano and Northern State this year’s season.

Coach Maikaba, is pocketing about 1.5 million as his monthly salary, yet there is no consistency in the team, which is in the sixth position with 41 points in 27 matches, that keeps millions of Pillars fans within and outside Kano State wondering and bearing in mind over their hope want to see Sai Masu Gida team finish the season as champion or in the third position but could end in no place to be found.

Kano being one of the most loving sports states, the government is spending a huge amount of money on player salaries to ensure that the team continues to maintain its position. This means that authorities in Kano should find out the real reason that a team like Kano Pillars FC will play six matches and win only one.

Since February 25, when Kano Pillars won 5-1 over Sunshine Stars at Sani Abacha Stadium, the Maikaba team has not won a single match since then until their match with sporting Lagos.

The matches that the Pillars lost in the second round of NPFL matches from round 22 are:

The first loss was on February 28, when Kano Pillars were hammered 3-2 by Katsina United in round 22 at Mohammadu Dikko Stadium in Katsina State. The second loss was in the round-of-23 match, in which the Abia Warriors defeated Kano Pillars FC by one goal to nil at their home ground, Sani Abacha Stadium Kofar Mata in the ancient city of Kano. On March 4, 2024, Pillars held Rivers United 1-1 in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Due to the lack of consistency of Pillars coach playing 27 matches home and away, but the team did not have a first eleven to start with, that makes some Fans were annoyed about the problems by boycotting Pillars’ match against Sporting Lagos, more than half of Sani Abacha Stadium is empty because they are not satisfied with the performance of the team.

The next match, Enyimba International of Aba, will host Kano Pillars in round 28 of the Nigerian Premier League 2023-2024 season.
