The Kano State Hospital management board has debunked reports that the Gwarzo General Hospital does not have enough staff, describing it as untrue, and unfounded.

The executive secretary of the board Dr. Mansur Mudi Nagoda disclosed this in a statement by the Board’s public relations officer Samira Suleiman.

According to the statement, after receiving the report, the executive supervision team swung into action and visited the facility to ascertain the level of damage in the facility but on getting they found out it was just a mere allegation.

Dr Nagoda explained that the entrance of the facility is stocked with stall shops and temporary wood which was allocated to the owners by the chairman of the local government and has hindered the access to emergency ambulance movement. Also, an eye structure donated by a philanthropist is empty. The structural X-ray room is fully completed with equipment and awaiting lead lining and installation.

On the issue of doctors, Dr Nagoda said the facility has 11 doctors plus a dental surgeon. The staff strength is satisfactory and clinical activities are ongoing as required without any challenge.

Regarding the issue of casual workers engaged by the facility, these workers were sent by political stakeholders and the facility cannot sustain the burden of paying over 1.2 million which prompted the zonal director to trim to a sizable limit. The audit of mortality and surgical review was nil and no note to attract attention.

He added that one of the main challenges the facility is facing is that, the hospital is surrounded by 24 to 28 chemists and private clinics, so diversion of patients is a come-place.

Dr. Nagoda said the state Ministry of Health (HMB) has officially denounced any rumor about the service delivery.

He recommended that the Private Health Institution Management Agency (PHIMA) and the ministry take urgent action as deemed fit.

The SMOH in partnership with KNUPDA cleared the hospital gate and surrounding the fence.

Dr Nagoda then commended the hospital friends for providing a place as a residence for the doctors in the facility to live comfortably in.
