The Mari-Care Foundation for Widows Single Parents Orphans and vulnerable Children in Nigeria has sensitized members of the public as part of the 33-Day “Power Up Immunisation” Campaign marking this year’s World Children’s Day, reaffirming its commitment to improving the wellbeing of children and vulnerable families.

The event was held at the Government Day Basic Secondary School, Unguwa Uku, in Tarauni Local Government Area of Kano State, attracting health workers, parents, students, and community stakeholders.

Speaking to GLOBAL TRACKER correspondent, the Chief Executive Officer of the Mari-Care Foundation, Mrs. Ola Tayo, expressed her dedication to strengthening social services, particularly for widows, single parents, orphans, and vulnerable children.

She emphasized that the foundation remains focused on improving health outcomes among underserved populations.

Mrs. Tayo highlighted the critical role of immunisation in safeguarding the future of children, warning that preventable diseases still pose serious threats in many communities.

“Vaccinating our children is one of the most effective ways to protect them from deadly diseases. Ensuring their health is the first step toward securing the future of the next generation,” she said.

One of the participants, Mrs. Musa Carpenter, a professional nurse, stressed the need for women to be adequately prepared for immunisation during the antenatal period.

She explained that vaccination is not a one-time event but a continuous process that must be followed diligently due to its long-term benefits for both mother and child.

Another health worker, Faisal Muhammad Tahir, a community extension officer, described vaccines as essential and almost a God-given right for every child.

He noted that the importance of immunisation “cannot be overemphasised,” adding that the campaign would help raise awareness and improve vaccination compliance in the community.

The event featured a range of activities, including children’s drama presentations, songs, and other social performances, all aimed at educating the public on the importance of vaccines while also creating an engaging atmosphere for the young participants.

The 33-day campaign is expected to extend across various communities, with the goal of increasing immunisation coverage and promoting healthier futures for children in Kano State.
