The Kano State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, has commended the management of Kano State Radio Corporation for its digital transformation, as the Managing Director, Abubakar Adamu Rano, unveiled 57 achievements recorded since December 22, 2023.

Waiya spoke while commissioning the corporation’s newly upgraded digital studio, describing the development as evidence of management’s commitment to repositioning the historic Radio Kano for modern broadcasting.

The commissioner expressed satisfaction with Rano’s achievements, noting that the Managing Director had demonstrated initiative by pursuing the station’s digitalisation without waiting entirely for government allocations.

Rano said the digitalisation programme was part of efforts to modernise the corporation, improve broadcasting operations and ensure its readiness to effectively serve the public, particularly ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The 57 achievements highlighted by the management covered areas including technical modernisation, digital transformation, infrastructure, staff development and institutional strengthening.

Waiya Wants Radio Kano Training Institute

Waiya also called for the transformation of Radio Kano into a training institute, citing its long history and the large number of journalists, broadcasters, producers and other professionals who have passed through the station.

He said Radio Kano had accumulated valuable institutional experience which could be harnessed to train a new generation of media professionals.

The proposal, he added, would enable the corporation to preserve its legacy while responding to the changing demands of the broadcasting industry.

Government Agencies To Work With State Media

Waiya further disclosed that the Ministry of Information and Internal Affairs was working with the Kano State House of Assembly Committee on Information to develop modalities that would strengthen collaboration between government agencies and state-owned media organisations.

He said the proposed arrangement would ensure that ministries, departments and agencies work more closely with state-owned media houses in disseminating information on government policies and programmes.

The initiative is expected to strengthen public communication and improve access to timely and credible information across the state.

The commissioner urged Radio Kano management and staff to sustain the transformation and maintain professionalism, accuracy and responsibility in their reportage.

The digital studio upgrade, achievements record and proposed training institute are part of broader efforts to reposition Radio Kano as a modern broadcasting, training and public information institution.
