The Kano State Government spent approximately N26.5 billion on the Government House, Governor’s Office and official travels during the first six months of 2026, according to an analysis of the state’s budget implementation reports.
The figures, compiled by PUNCH, showed that the state spent N25.87 billion on the Government House and Governor’s Office between January and June 2026.
An additional N626.95 million was recorded as expenditure on travels and transportation during the same period, bringing the combined spending to about N26.50 billion.

The expenditure forms part of the broader assessment of spending by state governments on the administration and operations of their executive offices.
Spending Declines By 10.3%
Despite the size of the expenditure, Kano recorded a decline compared with the corresponding period of 2025.
The analysis showed that spending on the Government House and Governor’s Office fell from N28.84 billion in the first half of 2025 to N25.87 billion during the same period in 2026.
This represents a reduction of about N2.98 billion, or approximately 10.32 per cent.
The figures do not represent the personal salary or private expenditure of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
Rather, expenditure under the Government House and Governor’s Office covers official and administrative activities, including personnel costs, maintenance, security, official functions and other expenses associated with running the executive arm of the state government.
Similarly, the N626.95 million recorded for travels and transportation relates to official government movements and transportation during the six-month period.
Kano Spending In National Context
The analysis further showed that Kano’s expenditure formed part of a broader spending pattern across the country.
In the 33 states for which data were available, governments collectively spent N512.10 billion on Government Houses, governors’ offices and travels during the first half of 2026.
The figures highlight the scale of public expenditure required to operate state executive administrations, while also showing that Kano recorded a year-on-year reduction in spending on the Government House and Governor’s Office.
