France has announced the indefinite closure of it’s Embassy in Niger republic citing security concerned after the military takeover.
The Niger Military Junta and official have on different occasions requested that France should immediately closed it’s Embassy and leave, the call that goes on deep ear for number of days.
However, after Condemnation and show of concern by different diplomat, France decided to leave.
In a letter to its staff, the embassy regret the closure saying the development followed the request of Niger authorities.

The letter read “Since the coup d’état of July 26, 2023 and the violent attack it suffered on July 30, 2023, the French Embassy has now been unable to exercise the fulness of the missions assigned to diplomatic representation because of the restrictions imposed on it by the Nigerien authorities.”
“Despite our repeated requests, the competent Nigerian authorities did not respond favourably to the maintenance of the activities of the French Embassy in Niger under normal conditions.
“The Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs of the French Republic is regrettably forced to close the embassy for an indefinite period.
“As a result, the French Embassy is unfortunately obliged to put an end to your contract! Of work in accordance with the provisions of Law No. 2012.45 of 25 September 2012 adopted for their application by Decree No. 2017-682/PRN/MET/PS of 10 August 2017, on the regulatory part of the Labour Code which provide in particular for the case of force majeure in accordance with annotations 208 (force majeure) and
217 (deflegitimate),
As a reminder, the labour inspector had not responded favourably to the invitation to participate in a preparatory meeting scheduled at the embassy on September 16.
The French Embassy in Niger offers you the following dismissal provisions as of April 30, 2024:
• Payment of a compensatory notice allowance equal to four months’ salary
• Siding of the remaining days off if necessary.
• End-of-service allowances calculated in relation to seniority.
