TETFUND Kidney Transplant Project Organizes Workshop for Doctors Across Six Northern States

The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) kidney transplant and urology project has organized a workshop for medical doctors drawn from six Northern states of Kano, Bauchi, Plateau, Borno, Abuja, and Kaduna.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Vice Chancellor, of Bayero University Kano Professor Sagir Adamu said Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital has conducted over 100 kidney transplants since its inception in 2002.

Represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Management Services, Professor Mahmud Sani said it was indigenized 20 years ago.

He commended TETFUND for initiating the project in Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH) and called for sustainability and extension to other health facilities.

The Acting Chief Medical Director (CMD), Professor Umar Gajida pointed out that TETFUND has done a lot in terms of kidney transplanting.

Represented by the acting chairman Medical Advisory Committee CMAC Dr. Dalhatu Gwarzo described the workshop as apt.

The participants were drawn from six institutions across northern states including AKTH, Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Bauchi, Jos Teaching Hospital (JUTH), University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, Abuja, Ahmadu Bello Teaching Hospital (ABU) Zaria.

After the technical session, the medical doctors would witness three live kidney transplants.
