The death toll from Israel’s military campaign in the Gaza Strip has climbed to at least 73,003 Palestinians, according to the latest figures released by Gaza’s Health Ministry, underscoring the devastating human cost of a conflict that has entered its third year despite ongoing ceasefire efforts.

The ministry reported that seven Palestinians were killed and six others wounded during the past 24-hour reporting period, bringing the total number of people injured since the war began on October 7, 2023, to 173,252.

The latest figures highlight the scale of destruction wrought by the conflict, which has devastated much of the enclave, displaced millions of residents, and triggered one of the world’s most severe humanitarian crises.

Even more striking, health authorities say that 992 Palestinians have been killed and 3,144 wounded since the ceasefire took effect in October 2025, raising fresh concerns over the effectiveness of the truce and the prospects for a lasting peace agreement.

The figures suggest that while the ceasefire reduced the intensity of large-scale fighting, deadly incidents have continued across the territory, with both sides accusing each other of violating the terms of the agreement.

The mounting casualty toll comes as renewed diplomatic efforts are underway to preserve the fragile ceasefire. Hamas is expected to send a delegation to Cairo for a new round of negotiations aimed at resolving key disputes that continue to threaten the agreement.

Among the most contentious issues are Hamas’s refusal to fully disarm, Israel’s demand for security guarantees, and disagreements over the withdrawal of Israeli troops from Gaza.

Meanwhile, humanitarian agencies continue to warn that Gaza’s civilian population remains trapped in dire conditions. Large areas of the enclave have been reduced to rubble, hospitals are struggling to function, and millions remain dependent on emergency aid for survival.

The latest casualty update has renewed international calls for stronger efforts to protect civilians and secure a permanent end to the war.

As negotiators prepare for fresh talks in Cairo, the grim milestone of more than 73,000 reported deaths serves as a stark reminder of the immense human toll of the conflict and the urgent need for a durable political solution.

With nearly 173,300 people wounded and hundreds more casualties recorded even after the ceasefire began, hopes for lasting peace remain overshadowed by the continuing loss of life in Gaza.
