The Kano State Police Command and the Nigeria Forest Security Service (NFSS) have agreed to strengthen collaboration to prevent suspected bandits and kidnappers from using forest routes to infiltrate communities across the state.
The development followed a visit by the Kano State Command of the NFSS to the State Police Headquarters, Bompai, Kano, on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, where the team met with the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori.
Kano State Commander of the NFSS, Abdullahi Al-ameen, disclosed this in a chat with Global Tracker Editor-in-Chief, Sani Magaji Garko.

Al-ameen said the visit was aimed at discussing how suspected bandits and kidnappers were allegedly moving from security-challenged areas of neighbouring Kaduna and Katsina states through forest routes into communities and local areas of Kano.
He said the meeting also focused on strengthening cooperation between the NFSS and Police to secure Kano’s forests and prevent criminal elements from using them as routes or hideouts.
According to him, both teams discussed extensively how to tackle the situation, particularly by monitoring and tracing the movement of suspected criminals through forest areas.
He stressed that NFSS personnel have an important role to play because of their knowledge and familiarity with the state’s forests and surrounding communities.
The Commander expressed satisfaction with the warm reception accorded him and members of his management team by CP Bakori, describing the meeting as an important and productive security engagement.
Al-ameen said the Commissioner immediately directed Police personnel in the state to work closely with NFSS personnel, particularly because of their expertise and knowledge of Kano’s forest terrain.
He said the directive would strengthen intelligence sharing, surveillance and coordinated efforts to prevent criminals from using forests to gain access to vulnerable communities.
The renewed security collaboration comes amid recent attacks reported in parts of Kano, including Chiromawa in Garun Mallam Local Government Area, Beli in Rogo, Bebeji and communities around Gwarzo.
The incidents have heightened concerns over the vulnerability of rural communities, particularly those located close to interstate boundaries and forested areas.
The state government has also called for stronger surveillance, intelligence gathering and rapid response to prevent further attacks.
Al-ameen said the NFSS remained committed to working with the Police and other security agencies to protect Kano’s forests and prevent them from becoming corridors or hideouts for criminal elements.
He expressed optimism that the renewed partnership would help strengthen security in forest communities and prevent suspected bandits and kidnappers from infiltrating Kano through forest routes.
