A grassroots organization, the Kawaji First Development Association, has honoured the Executive Secretary of the Kano State Science and Technical Schools Board (STSB), Professor Dahiru Sale Mohammed, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to educational development across communities in Kano State.

The event, held in Kawaji Ward, brought together community leaders, education stakeholders, and residents who gathered to celebrate what they described as a transformative impact on education at the grassroots level.

Presenting the award on behalf of the community, the Village Head of Tokarawa, Alhaji Isma’il, commended the STSB boss for his unwavering commitment to improving access to quality education and strengthening technical and vocational training across the state.

The association noted that the recognition was based on Professor Dahiru’s far-reaching contributions, spanning Kawaji Ward, Nasarawa Local Government Area, and Kano State at large, particularly in advancing policies that directly impact students and local communities.

Speaking at the ceremony, representatives of the Kawaji First Development Association highlighted the role of the group in engaging policymakers, educationists, and community members to drive development initiatives, noting that the honour reflects the community’s appreciation of leadership that delivers tangible results.

Under Professor Dahiru’s leadership, technical colleges in Kano have undergone significant transformation, evolving from conventional learning centres into production and maintenance hubs, where students actively participate in the production of goods and services.

The reforms have also introduced innovations such as the conversion of electrical appliances to solar-powered systems, aimed at enhancing practical skills and promoting sustainable technology.

The reforms are aligned with broader national efforts to reposition Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) as a tool for economic growth and youth empowerment.

Kano State has also taken a leading role by serving as a pilot state for the implementation of the new TVET curriculum at Government Technical College Bagauda, further cementing its position at the forefront of technical education reform in Nigeria.

Professor Dahiru had earlier participated in a high-level national TVET workshop in Abuja, organized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the Government of South Korea, and the Federal Government of Nigeria, where strategies for strengthening skills development and addressing unemployment were discussed.

He has also consistently commended the Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, for his sustained support to the education sector, particularly in an revitalizing technical colleges and improving learning infrastructure across the state.
