The Chairman of the Kano State Sports Commission, Alhaji Muhammad Tukur Babangida, has received an Award of Appreciation from the Kano Pillars Supporters Club, Kumbotso Local Government Chapter, in recognition of his contributions to the development of Kano Pillars and sports in the state.
Ashiru Rabiu Gidan Tudun, the information officer of Kano state Sports Commission in a statement sent to GLOBAL TRACKER correspondent said the award was presented during the inauguration ceremony of the supporters club’s Kumbotso chapter.
Speaking at the event, Chairman of the Supporters Club, Muntari Ibrahim Adanna, said the honour was in recognition of Babangida’s outstanding contributions to the growth and development of Kano Pillars since 1990.

Adanna highlighted some of the club’s achievements, including winning its first Nigeria Premier Football League title in 2008 and lifting the Nigerian Federation Cup in 2019.
He also commended the Sports Commission chairman for his role in Kano Pillars’ historic run to the semi-finals of the CAF Champions League, where the club faced some of Africa’s leading football sides.
According to him, the recognition was intended to appreciate individuals who have contributed to the progress of the club and helped sustain its position as one of Kano’s major sporting institutions.
Receiving the award, Babangida thanked the Kano Pillars Supporters Club for the recognition, describing it as a source of motivation to continue contributing to sports development in Kano State.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the Kano State Sports Commission to working closely with supporters, clubs, athletes and other stakeholders to promote the development of sports across the state.
Babangida also praised Kano Pillars supporters for their loyalty and continued support for the club, describing their commitment as an important component of the team’s success.
The inauguration of the Kumbotso chapter is expected to further strengthen the supporters’ network and deepen grassroots involvement in supporting Kano Pillars and sports development in the state.
The event brought together supporters and stakeholders who reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the club and promoting the growth of football in Kano.
