The All Progressives Congress (APC) has won the Dawakin Kudu State Constituency bye-election in Kano State, with its candidate, Hussaini Yusuf Datti, polling 22,890 votes to emerge winner.
The result was announced following the bye-election conducted on Saturday, September 19, 2026, to fill the vacant seat in the Kano State House of Assembly.
Datti defeated candidates of other political parties in the election, with the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) recording 270 votes, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) polled 108 votes.
The Action Peoples Party (APP) secured 53 votes, while the Labour Party (LP) obtained 39 votes.
Premium Times reported that the Returning Officer for the election, Ibrahim Tajo-Suraj, declared Yusuf-Datti the winner in Dawakin Kudu after he secured the highest number of votes.
According to the declared result, the APC candidate polled 22,890 votes against his closest rival, Habib Hamisu of the PRP, who secured 270 votes. The PDP candidate, Abdullahi Adamu, received 108 votes, while other candidates recorded smaller totals.
The by-election became necessary following the movement of Shuaibu Rabiu Nagoggo, popularly known as Abba Gano, from the Kano State House of Assembly to the House of Representatives.
Nagoggo, who had represented Dawakin Kudu in the Kano State House of Assembly, subsequently contested and won the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency seat in a federal by-election.
The federal seat became vacant following the death of Alhaji Muhammad Hassan, who represented the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
Hassan died in Abuja on April 10, 2026, at the age of 66, following a period of illness. His death triggered the federal constituency by-election, which was won by Nagoggo, thereby leaving the Dawakin Kudu State Assembly seat vacant.
The latest poll has now filled the vacant State Assembly position, with APC’s Hussaini Yusuf Datti declared elected after securing the highest number of votes.
The result means the APC has retained the Dawakin Kudu State Constituency seat following the transition of its former representative, Nagoggo, to the National Assembly.
