The Executive Chairman of the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC), Mr Saidu Yahaya, has reportedly resigned his appointment amid mounting pressure surrounding the performance of the state anti-graft agency.
However, as of the time of filing this report, neither Saidu Yahaya nor the Kano State Government had issued an official statement publicly confirming the resignation or explaining the circumstances surrounding it.
Yahaya’s reported departure comes barely two months after Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf publicly challenged the leadership of the commission over what he described as a decline in its enforcement momentum and public visibility.

Speaking in July, Governor Yusuf urged the PCACC leadership to restore the commission’s previous level of anti-corruption enforcement, including investigating and taking action against officials found wanting.
The Governor specifically told the chairman that if he was afraid to fight corruption or unable to discharge his responsibilities, he should resign.
Yusuf said the anti-corruption fight required people who were prepared to withstand criticism, blackmail and opposition, stressing that officials entrusted with fighting corruption should not operate with fear or sycophancy.
The Governor’s comments came against the background of concerns over what he perceived as a reduction in the commission’s activities compared with the period under its former chairman, Muhuyi Magaji Rimin Gado.
Yahaya was nominated by Governor Yusuf in August 2025 to succeed Rimin Gado after the expiration of the latter’s tenure.
His nomination was subsequently approved, and he assumed office as Executive Chairman of the PCACC.
During his tenure, the commission continued to undertake anti-corruption and public accountability activities. In February 2026, for instance, Yahaya led the recovery of government vehicles from former commissioners who had resigned from the state administration.
The PCACC also maintained programmes involving investigation, public complaints, anti-corruption education and collaboration with other institutions. Its official website lists Yahaya as Executive Chairman and records several activities carried out under his leadership.
Despite these activities, the commission subsequently came under renewed scrutiny following Governor Yusuf’s July criticism.
The latest reports have linked Yahaya’s resignation to mounting pressure from the state government. Prime Time News further reported claims that the pressure was connected to concerns about his political loyalty and alleged closeness to former Kano State Governor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
Those claims, however, remain allegations and have not been independently established. Neither Yahaya nor the Kano State Government has publicly confirmed them as the reason for his reported resignation.
The development also comes amid significant political realignment in Kano following Governor Yusuf’s resignation from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) and subsequent movement into the All Progressives Congress (APC) earlier in 2026.
The PCACC’s official website, which was still listing Yahaya as Executive Chairman when checked, had not reflected the reported resignation. This further underscores the need for an official statement before the development can be treated as formally confirmed.
Yahaya’s reported resignation now leaves questions over who will take charge of the commission and whether the Kano State Government will appoint an acting chairman pending the appointment and confirmation of a substantive successor.
