The Kano Patriotic CSOs Coalition Forum (KPCF), a coalition comprising over 451 Civil Society Organizations across Kano State, has commended the Kano State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, for strengthening collaboration between the government and civil society groups in the state.

The coalition made the commendation in a statement issued on June 24, 2026, where it praised the commissioner for what it described as visionary leadership and commitment toward promoting citizen participation and inclusive governance in Kano State.

In the statement jointly signed by the Lead Convener of the coalition, Mustapha Muhammed Chiroma, alongside Ibrahim Hassan Gama and Peter Hassan Tijjani, the forum particularly applauded the revival and repositioning of the Special Assignments Department within the Ministry of Information and Internal Affairs.

According to the coalition, the initiative has created a functional platform for engagement, consultation and partnership between the Kano State Government and Civil Society Organizations.

KPCF stated that the renewed engagement mechanism has enhanced opportunities for dialogue, policy feedback and collective action on issues affecting residents of Kano State.

The coalition also acknowledged the efforts of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf in promoting inclusive governance and recognizing Civil Society Organizations as critical stakeholders in the development process.

The forum explained that through the leadership of Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, the Ministry had initiated several constructive engagements with CSOs across the state, thereby creating channels for citizens’ concerns and recommendations to reach the government for necessary action.

“For many years, communication and trust gaps existed between government institutions and civil society actors. The ongoing civic engagement initiatives championed by the Honourable Commissioner have significantly bridged these gaps,” the statement noted.

The coalition further stated that the renewed relationship between the government and civil society had promoted mutual respect, transparency, accountability and citizen-centred governance in Kano State.

KPCF described the current engagement approach adopted by the Ministry as a positive governance model worthy of emulation.

The coalition also commended Comrade Waiya for his role in the rehabilitation, empowerment and reintegration of repentant youths under the Safe Corridor Kano Model Programme.

According to the group, the initiative demonstrates the commitment of the Kano State Government toward addressing youth political violence, thuggery, Daba activities, criminality and drug abuse through non-violent and sustainable measures.

The coalition stressed that such interventions were necessary for building a peaceful and secure society while empowering vulnerable youths with productive opportunities.

KPCF therefore reiterated its support for the Commissioner and encouraged the Kano State Government to sustain and institutionalize the ongoing engagement mechanisms to ensure citizens continue to participate in governance and policy formulation.

The coalition also called on Civil Society Organizations across Kano State to take advantage of the opportunity for constructive engagement and partnership with the government in promoting peace, development, accountability, social inclusion and good governance.

The forum reaffirmed its commitment to working with the Kano State Government and other stakeholders in advancing democratic governance, civic participation, peacebuilding and sustainable development for the benefit of the people of Kano State.
