The Kano State Government has directed Azman University Kano to produce all relevant building and operational documents before the state committee on illegal structures or risk closure over alleged violations of town planning regulations.

The directive was issued by the Kano State committee on illegal structures headed by the Director General of the Kano Geographic Information System (KANGIS), Dr. Dalhatu Aliyu Sani, as part of ongoing enforcement operations targeting illegal developments and unauthorized structures across the state.

The committee ordered the management of Azman University and other sealed institutions to appear before it with all necessary approvals, land documents and relevant permits relating to structures of the institution.

According to the information, the government warned that failure to comply with the directive could lead to the closure of the institution and further enforcement actions.

In a related development, the committee also ordered the sealing of Azman Filling Station located within the university environment over alleged non-compliance with urban planning and approval regulations.

The latest actions form part of the state government’s intensified crackdown on illegal structures, unauthorized commercial activities and violations of building regulations across Kano metropolis.

The committee in recent weeks has sealed several plazas, commercial buildings, construction sites, filling stations and housing estates accused of operating without proper approvals or violating town planning laws.

Among the affected properties are Wholesale Electronics Household located along Gwarzo Road opposite Bayero University Kano, an illegal housing estate at NNDC Quarters and several structures at Kantin Kwari Market where demolition orders were reportedly issued.

It was also gathered that most of the structures sealed during the latest operation were located along Maiduguri Road from Hotoro NNPC axis toward Wudil Local Government Area.

Speaking during one of the enforcement exercises, the chairman of the committee, Dr. Dalhatu Aliyu Sani, warned that all property owners, developers, commercial operators and construction sites across Kano State must comply with all necessary documentation and approval requirements.

He emphasized that any structure found violating government regulations or constructed without proper approvals would face sanctions including sealing, demolition or closure.

The chairman further declared that the committee remains open to receiving complaints from members of the public regarding illegal structures, blocked waterways and commercial developments erected in violation of town planning regulations.

According to him, public cooperation remains critical to addressing the growing problem of illegal construction activities and protecting the environment from hazards associated with unregulated urban development.

Authorities maintained that the ongoing enforcement drive is aimed at restoring orderliness, improving environmental safety and supporting the “Kano First” development agenda of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

Residents in several affected communities have reportedly welcomed the operations, describing them as necessary measures to address flooding risks, environmental degradation and indiscriminate construction activities within Kano metropolis.

Observers say the latest development reflects the Kano State Government’s determination to strengthen enforcement of urban planning regulations and ensure strict compliance with building and land use laws across the state.
